I have a checklist for what I consider great EDC, and I’m going to share it with you. Good EDC (in entirely my opinion) should be compact, well-crafted, appealing, and should try to be multipurpose. Tick all those boxes and you’ve won my support – something that I instantly felt with the Edge & Pop the second I saw it. It’s compact, has a fairly plain silhouette, but is filled with character. When open, it sports a tiny drop-point microblade made from gorgeous Damascus Steel. Close the blade, however, and the EDC transforms into a bottle opener.

That’s where the name Edge & Pop comes from – its two personas. When open, the blade reveals its sharp edge, but when shut, it lets you ‘pop’ open a brewski. The magic lies in the way the blade’s formed. The bottle opener is built right into its rear, and juts out when the knife’s shut. Use the bottle opener as a finger-flip, and it allows the blade to swivel open… and when your hands aren’t loving this fidget action, your eyes are admiring the spectacular Damascus bladework, wrapped in gorgeous ebony wood.

“I created Edge & Pop because I was tired of bulky, uninspired pocket tools. I wanted something that’s sharp, stylish, and truly everyday-carry friendly, so I designed a compact Damascus steel knife with a built-in bottle opener,” says Lunark, the man behind the Edge & Pop. “A great pocket knife should feel like an extension of your hand, effortless to carry, built to last, and always ready when you need it. Inspired by centuries of craftsmanship, I set out to create a pocket knife that honors tradition while embracing modern everyday needs.”

Measuring a mere 1.85 inches when closed (1.6 inches if you just measure the handle), and opening to a tiny 2.7 inches when you need to wield the blade, the Edge & Pop is so compact you’ll forget it’s even there. It weighs a paltry 1 ounce or 28 grams (that’s lighter than your average AirPods case), but pop the blade open and it really does mean business. The blade may measure only 1.1 inches from base to tip, but that’s enough to really get the job done, whether you’re using your EDC knief indoors or outdoors.

The gorgeous Damascus steel blade is truly a work of art. Lunark prides himself in craftsmanship, which is why the entire EDC is such a celebration of tradition and handiwork. The blade’s drop-point profile allows it to do everything from cut open envelopes to even slice through paracord and whittle/carve wood. 67 layers of high-carbon stainless steel give the blade a rating of 58-60 on the Rockwell Hardness Scale, which means it’ll take on all the tasks you throw at it without really needing much upkeep or maintenance. The 9Cr18MoV steel blade holds its shape and retains its edge even with sustained use.

Meanwhile, the back of the blade sports that nifty little bottle opener. In many ways, the bottle opener acts as a flipper to quickly deploy the blade. A liner lock holds the blade in place, and can be disengaged to shut the knife and reveal its bottle opener detail once again. Made from the same Damascus steel, it effortlessly cracks open the caps of any bottle, while the handle acts as the fulcrum point.

The handle itself is fashioned from a piece of ebony wood. The unique grain on the handle is a sheer treat to look at, and is unique to every knife. Similarly, the Damascus blade has its own unique marbling, which means every single Edge & Pop is different in its pattern, sort of like human fingerprints. That also means your Edge & Pop knife is truly yours, and unlike any other out there.

“I set out to create a pocket knife that blends heritage craftsmanship with modern utility, a tool that’s compact, effortless to carry, and designed for everyday use,” Lunark mentions. “After multiple iterations, I arrived at the perfect form, sleek, precise, and uniquely functional. The built-in bottle opener became an essential feature, adding an extra layer of practicality without compromising the knife’s slim profile. Every detail was carefully considered to create a tool that feels just as good in hand as it looks in your everyday carry.

Compact, utilitarian, versatile, and visually striking, the Edge & Pop really does tick all my boxes for good EDC design. It starts at just $39 per unit – extremely affordable for a hand-forged Damascus Steel blade – and makes for a great gift if you’ve got friends/family who love the outdoors and the adventure it brings… Or just appreciate their occasional beers!

RIP HDMI Cables – This 6-in-1 Wireless HDMI Transmitter Hub Lets You Stream Video Wirelessly

]]>

It’s 2025 and most of the tech around us is truly wireless. We can share audio wireless, we transmit internet wirelessly, we even charge wirelessly. But we’re still slaves to the HDMI cable – sure, there’s really no problem streaming video wirelessly, but casting is fundamentally broken. As someone who used Chromecast for the longest time, it was frustratingly slow with input/output lag that I could literally measure myself. That was years ago and casting today still remains fairly clunky – although the folks at TobenONE could be sitting on something fairly revolutionary – lag-free wireless HDMI transmission.

Imagine this – you plug a transmitter into your iPad, a receiver into a monitor, and boom, you’ve got a secondary display that works as buttery smooth as if it were connected by an invisible HDMI cable. The TobenONE T1 connects to input devices via USB-C, so it works with your laptop, tablet, phone, even your handheld gaming console, giving you an instant connection to a nearby external display. However, it doesn’t limit itself to just being an HDMI transmitter – the TobenONE T1 works as a 6-in-1 multiport hub too, letting you charge devices, transfer data, and stream wirelessly, whether it’s a presentation at work, or just wanting to beam TikTok from your phone onto your TV.

Designer: TobenONE

The TobenONE T1 is about ruthless efficiency. Need to throw your laptop screen onto a projector across the room without crawling under a table with an HDMI cable in your mouth? Done. Thanks to built-in 5G Wi-Fi, the T1 transmits video and audio wirelessly up to 30 meters away, delivering a 1080p 60Hz signal with surprising stability. And for when you crave pixel perfection, the receiver actually works as an HDMI cable too, allowing you to simply connect it to the transmitter for native 4K at 60Hz through a wired connection. This thing handles both modes on command with a one-click switch that actually works as promised—white LED for wireless, green for wired. Simple, decisive, and more responsive than most coworkers in a Zoom meeting.

What TobenONE has pulled off here is a kind of hybrid we rarely see in the accessories world—a dual-mode tool that doesn’t feel like it was compromised by the ambition of trying to be both. Wireless projection is buttery smooth, and the HDMI output through hub mode looks as sharp as you’d expect from a 4K 60Hz signal. You could run a Netflix binge, share a Figma prototype, or throw up a real-time DaVinci Resolve preview—all without stutters or sync issues. It even shrugs off minor latency concerns that plague similar wireless solutions, thanks to a hardware-level SoC video processor optimized for the job.

Of course, “hub” means you’re getting more than just display mirroring. The T1 packs two USB-C ports, a USB-A 3.0 port (because some of us still use flash drives), a 100W PD 3.0 charging port, and the aforementioned HDMI. The USB ports push data at up to 5Gbps, which is fast enough to dump your entire photo library into an SSD before your coffee gets cold. The power delivery deserves its own ovation—100 watts of juice through the USB-C port is no joke. It’ll charge your MacBook Pro while simultaneously running external displays and transferring files, without blinking.

The design itself is slick, intuitive, and massively reduces both visual and hardware clutter. The entire thing is a single black box with a one-button interface, making using it foolproof. A polymer shell with a tactile matte-gloss combo finish that resists fingerprints better than some phones. Smartly placed ventilation holes boost heat dissipation by 50%, making this one of the rare performance-forward hubs that doesn’t overheat halfway through a project deadline.

But where T1 really earns its stripes is how seamless it feels. The pairing between the transmitter and receiver is pre-configured at the factory. No apps. No QR code dance. No desperate forum dives at 11 p.m. Just plug, press, and go. Even the initial sync, which takes a modest 5–10 seconds, gets cut down to near-instant speeds with each subsequent use.

It’s clearly built for people who move fast—designers shifting between workstations, marketers pitching from laptops, educators sharing content on classroom screens. And despite its portability, it doesn’t cut corners on performance. That blend of mobility and muscle is rare, especially in a segment littered with undercooked gimmicks pretending to be productivity tools.

The T1 hub starts at $99, an impressive 50% off from its original $179 price tag. It includes the transmitter itself, which serves as the 6-in-1 hub and a receiver for plugging into your HDMI-enabled external device. The receiver works as an HDMI cable too in a pinch, which means you don’t really need any extra cables, dongles, peripherals cluttering your desk or your life.

With more people ditching paper bills and coins for cards and e-wallets, the trend has been to shrink down wallets to the thinnest size possible. Such thin wallets, however, have a tendency to fall out of pockets or get lost, so the birth of MagSafe tech provided a simple yet elegant solution. Simply slap the wallet onto the back of your phone and you’re good to go.

This potent combination gave rise to quite a few MagSafe wallet designs, many of which espoused minimalism to the extreme, looking like nothing more than very simplistic pouches for two to three cards only. This rather creative design, however, adds not only a mechanical touch but also a tactile element to the product that turns it into an addictive fidget toy as well.

Designer: Puncube

Most MagSafe wallets are “top-loading,” which is to say that you pull out and insert cards from the top. That’s a common design that not only mirrors the convention of typical cardholders but also aligns with the vertical orientation of smartphones. Unfortunately, this can be quite cumbersome at times, particularly when the wallet is still stuck to the phone’s back, as the camera bump can get in the way of smooth and quick movement.

The Puncube MagSafe Wallet’s design doesn’t just fix this by having the cards come out from the sides, it also makes it possible to simply push out the cards using a side-sliding mechanism that’s so enjoyable that you might find it to be habit-forming. No need to dig your fingers into those thin slots; simply push to the side with one hand and pull out the card you need with the other. This works whether the wallet is on its own or, even better, when it’s still attached to the back of the iPhone.

What makes the design even more curious is the three different “flavors” you can pick depending on your preferred mechanical action. Wasteland – Pinball uses a mechanical ratchet system that offers a satisfying click, but if you prefer a smoother and more silent movement, the Horizon – Slide’s zero-resistance slider and return assistance might be for you. Standing somewhere in the middle is the Ripples – Magnetic, which uses magnets to deliver precise movement stages with distinct tactile feedback.

The Puncube Magsafe Wallet is also a work of craftsmanship, CNC precision milled from space-grade 6063 aluminum. Its compact body has room for up to five cards, fully protected from RFID scanners with its total enclosure. Whether on its own or snapped on the back of your iPhone, this MagSafe Wallet provides a secure way to hold your precious cards while still giving easy access that feels almost like a game with each and every slide.

]]>

If there’s ever a match that I think is absolutely made in heaven, it’s the match of titanium and EDC. The metal lends itself so naturally to tiny, portable, durable tools that almost every EDC tool I see nowadays is either made from titanium, or can be radically improved if it were. Take stationery for example – sure, wooden scales are nice, plastic scales are affordable, stainless steel scales are elite – but the RU01 trumps them all with its titanium construction and its ability to double as a set of vernier calipers.

The MecArmy RU01 is a tiny EDC ruler that’s small enough to fit on your keychain or be an active part of your EDC collection. It’s tiny, measuring less than 4 inches in length, weighing only 1.4 ounces or 39 grams, but its small size is precisely what makes it so noteworthy. Machined from titanium, this portable ruler features a 2-part design that allows it to easily and seamlessly work like a pair of calipers, measuring things with an accuracy of 0.2mm.

Designer: MecArmy

Perhaps the most portable form of a caliper set you could own, the RU01 is simple and sophisticated. A moving jaw lets you place objects in between the calipers, measuring objects up to 5cm or 2 inches long. Etching on the scale lets you measure in both metric and imperial units, and when you’re not measuring objects under 2 inches (wink-wink), the caliper’s movement makes for a great fidget toy. Obviously, when you’re not measuring objects, the straight edge of the RU01 can be used for drawing/cutting straight lines too.

The RU01 is just good design and seamless execution. The machined titanium construction means phenomenally low tolerances that make the vernier calipers accurate as well as fairly durable. There’s no wobble, no scope for error, and no chance of anything breaking apart because it’s all built so immaculately. A spring-lock helps hold the jaw shut when not in use, so it doesn’t slide open accidentally. All the details, however, are hidden from sight, making the RU01 really feel like a work of art.

The caliper’s front jaw isn’t too sharp, but it also works for opening letters or boxes. I wouldn’t try prying open anything tougher with it, but an integrated bottle-opener would’ve been nice. The RU01 does, however, have a slot on the back for stringing a key ring or a carabiner, so you can carry the gizmo around with you as a part of your EDC collection.

At $79.99, the MecArmy RU01 isn’t cheap for a one-trick EDC. I do wish it had at least a hex driver or bottle opener to really seal the deal, but as far as build goes, there’s really nothing to complain about. It’s reliable, robust, and ready to serve whenever you need it. Normally, calipers are considered fragile tools (because of how sensitive they’re made to be), but the RU01 is far from fragile – in fact, you could easily pass it down to your grandkids. That’s if we all live long enough.

Remember the coolest geometry set you ever lay eyes on as a school-going kid? It could be something you owned, saw someone else own, or just glanced wishfully at while at a store. Now imagine all that coolness packed not into a set, but into one singular instrument. When I saw the Tiruler for the first time, that’s pretty much the feeling I got – that of awe, euphoria, and sheer desire. We’ve all seen folding rulers before, but imagine one that has a caliper, a pencil, a screw-driver, or a spirit level too. Sounds wild, doesn’t it? Now imagine the entire thing made out of titanium, so even though you buy it out of being an excited EDC enthusiast, you can pass it down like a family heirloom to your kids when they need a cool geometry set of their own.

Born from the engineering minds at MakerPi, the Tiruler represents a fascinating pivot into the tangible, analog world of everyday carry. With more than 10 functions built into its unique form, the Tiruler is like nothing I’ve personally ever seen. Every single inch of the gizmo hides a feature that gives the Tiruler incredible meaning and value… all blended into an industrial-steampunk aesthetic that isn’t merely a visual flourish – the exposed mechanics and dual-material construction telegraph the tool’s serious intentions while celebrating its utilitarian soul.

Designer: MakerPi

Click Here to Buy Now: $89 $138 (39% off) Hurry! Only 6 days left.

The best way to appreciate the Tiruler is to really look at all that it packs into its compact form. The device measures roughly 120mm or 4.7 inches when closed, opening up into a 200mm or 7.8-inch scale, depending on your need. The entire thing’s made from titanium with etched numbers, so you could use it to measure, draw, cut, or do anything without worrying about any wear or tear. The pivoting scale expands based on need, but here’s the kicker, it also packs both imperial and metric measurements, and that pivot? It works as a protractor.

The pivot features a brass enclosure with engraved angles that let you use the Tiruler to draw or measure angles. In all fairness, I had a scale/ruler that did this in school – but it was made out of plastic, had its fair share of errors, and wasn’t as immaculately produced as this. Here, titanium-machined precision makes the Tiruler fantastically accurate. Want me to elaborate? The thing has a literal vernier caliper built into it too! But we’ll get to that later on.

Along the pivoting mechanism is also a rolling scale that lets you measure non-linear surfaces. Perfect for curves, or just measuring something you can’t hold a scale to, the rolling scale lets you roll along the line you want to measure. Every time it completes a revolution, it clicks, making keeping track of measurements easy. This effectively means you can go on measuring indefinitely – just count the clicks and then look at the final number on the roller to get your overall calculation.

For more complex measurements, an integrated vernier caliper gives you the ability to do stuff your regular ruler can’t. The caliper’s jaw sits inside a perfectly machined slot on the Tiruler, sliding out as much as 50mm, while giving you measurements of 0.1mm of accuracy, or 0.003 inches. A button on the end makes sliding easy, unlocking the caliper’s jaw just when you need it and not otherwise.

When you’re not measuring, you’re probably drawing – which is why the Tiruler packs its own Eternal Pencil into its design. Sitting snugly in a slot thanks to magnets, the pencil can be undocked whenever needed, and used to draw lines, make doodles, annotate documents with measurements, etc. The eternal pencil tip never needs sharpening and can work for decades, while the pencil’s metal body also packs a sharp-ish end that’s perfect for running along the edge of boxes to open them without really being a traditional ‘blade’.

Other rather clever details include the presence of a hex slot for mounting hex bits that turn the Tiruler into a high-torque screwdriver, a spirit level that lets you use the Tiruler to align objects like, say, paintings on a wall, and the mark of a good EDC – a bottle opener that lets you hang loose between serious measuring jobs. Maybe not the best feature for a ruler you’d pass down to your kid, but hey, the Tiruler is versatile EDC first and heirloom-material later. Finally, tritium slots really cement the EDC status of the Tiruler, making it the perfect collector-item for anyone who loves gear and multitools.

The choice of titanium for the Tiruler’s construction gives it the power of true longevity. Beyond its obvious resistance to bending (the death knell for lesser rulers), titanium offers corrosion resistance that ensures this tool will age gracefully through years of workshop abuse and pocket carry. The overall device weighs a paltry 60 grams or 2.1 ounces, and the lack of a blade makes the Tiruler TSA-friendly, so you can easily carry it with you wherever you go – whether it’s to work or even on a flight. Now I don’t normally need a ruler or protractor on flights, but hey, you do you?

What impresses most isn’t just the number of functions MakerPi has packed into the Tiruler, but how harmoniously they coexist. Each capability occupies its dedicated space without encroaching on the others, resulting in a tool that performs each task with surprising competence. The Tiruler starts at $89 (surprisingly affordable for a titanium-based multitool), which includes the ruler itself, the eternal pencil, and also a cowhide leather holder for your tool, giving you something that’s truly upper-echelon. I swear, if I had this as a child I’d be the coolest kid in math class.

The End of Battery Anxiety? How Power Banks Are Changing the Portable Charging Game

]]>

Technology’s relentless evolution transforms how we live, blurring the line between novelty and necessity. I discovered this during a cross-country flight when my laptop died mid-presentation, leaving me frantically searching for an outlet. Power banks epitomize this shift, emerging as elegant solutions to digital disconnection anxiety. These portable energy sanctuaries preserve our digital lifelines when battery icons flash red warnings. For design-conscious users like myself, today’s power banks are no longer a blocky design but rather marry utility and aesthetics as sleek objects that slide into pockets alongside our cherished devices, providing the psychological comfort of knowing we’ll never be stranded with a dead device.

The liberation offered by portable power reshapes our relationship with technology and space. I’ve appreciated this freedom during weekend hikes capturing sunset photos without battery anxiety, and at design conferences documenting inspirations among more scenarios. While wall chargers anchor us to architectural grids, power banks celebrate nomadic freedom. As devices become extensions of ourselves, these portable power sources have evolved into design objects worthy of display, silent guardians that speak volumes about our appreciation for both form and function.

How Have Power Banks Evolved?

As technology advances, power banks have undergone significant transformation. The power banks were once bulky and heavy devices that have now become sleek and lightweight units that store electrical energy to power electronic devices. Some of the recent improvements in lithium-ion battery technology have increased energy density allowing more power to be stored in a smaller space. These advancements not only make power banks more compact but also improve safety and enable faster charging speeds. Additionally, integrated circuits (ICs) and miniaturized chips now offer better protection against overheating and overcharging of the power bank.

AYANEO’s Retro Power Bank is a playful nod to the Super Famicom, designed to resemble the iconic Japanese console with a modern twist. The device is no larger than a smartphone and serves as a 12,000mAh power bank that is cleverly disguised in retro aesthetics. While many retro-themed devices aim to recreate old gaming experiences, this one focuses on visual appeal, featuring the dual-tone gray color scheme, raised middle section, and even a sliding power switch, similar to the original Super Famicom.

The 45W output is fine for most phones, but it’s slower than higher-output chargers, and using both USB-C ports simultaneously reduces the output to 15W each. There’s no wireless charging, which preserves the device’s retro look. The Retro Power Bank stands out for its unique design, offering a nostalgic tribute to classic gaming consoles in a modern, functional form. It’s a fun, albeit slower, charging solution for those who appreciate retro-tech and practicality.

What Are the Latest Features in Power Banks?

The latest power banks come with a variety of innovative features. These include wireless charging, which allows one to charge devices without the need for a cable, and fast charging that provides quicker power-ups. Many power banks can also charge multiple devices simultaneously. For safety, modern power banks include features to prevent overheating and overcharging and even LED screens to display the current charge level. When fully charged, the LED screen is illuminated. Additionally, advances in manufacturing have improved efficiency, with built-in sensors that offer protection against overcharging. Some power banks even incorporate solar panels for charging during daylight. Another innovation is the modular power bank, where the batteries can be detachable or stackable, allowing users to add or remove the batteries depending on their specific power needs.

By focusing on usability, portability, and aesthetics, Analog reimagined the power bank by blending functionality with thoughtful design. Instead of the typical bulky, brick-shaped design, they created a sleek, elongated version that resembles a cosmetic case. For many, a power bank is as essential as a smartphone, and with its added functionality, the design includes a built-in mirror for extra convenience.

Available in a range of pastel colors, these power banks may appeal to individuals who appreciate having a mirror on hand or those who prefer a more stylish accessory. The ergonomic design also benefits users who experience hand or muscle strain from holding their phones for extended periods. While power banks are typically valued for their function over form, Analog’s design proves that they can be both practical and visually appealing, with added features that enhance the overall user experience.

What Factors to Consider When Selecting a Power Bank?

When choosing a power bank, several factors should be considered, including capacity, size, and charging capabilities. If you’re often on the move, opt for a lightweight design. For example, the power bank should have a higher charging capacity if you want to charge a laptop.

  • Built-in safety features, such as overcharging protection, are essential. It is important to pay attention to the quality of the cable, as a high-quality cable offers better conductivity. It’s advisable to choose a cable that supports the maximum current and voltage required for your device.
  • If you need to charge multiple devices, look for power banks with higher output power and multiple USB ports or multi-device charging features. The power bank should also have the correct ports for your device(s).
  • Charging speed is another important factor and refers to both how quickly the power bank charges itself and how quickly it charges your devices. Consider the input and output speeds to ensure optimal performance.
  • You can also choose between two types of batteries: lithium-ion (Li-ion), which is generally cheaper and offers higher capacity, or lithium-polymer (Li-Po), which is lighter, and more compact, but typically offers lower capacity.
  • Price is also an important factor—while more expensive power banks may offer better features and durability, it’s always worth comparing different options. Be sure to check the brand reputation and customer reviews to ensure quality.

The MChaos 10,000mAh power bank meets the growing demand for creatively designed, portable charging solutions. This compact power bank features a bidirectional USB-C port, along with a retractable cord and removable carabiner, allowing users to easily attach it to backpacks or clothing for convenient, on-the-go charging. The retractable cord extends up to 28 inches and locks in place, eliminating tangled cables and simplifying charging with a “pull, plug, and go” experience.

Designed with durability in mind, the cord has been tested for 5,000 retractions, while the power bank is made from fireproof materials for added safety, protecting against overheating and electrical issues. With a 20W max output, it can charge devices like an iPhone to 50% in just 30 minutes and supports simultaneous charging of two devices. User feedback influenced its design, leading to the addition of an extra USB-C port and a new version with a Lightning cable option.

Traditional power banks that are designed as horizontal boxes can be space-inefficient when in use, especially in cramped areas. A new concept, the SJPB-400 Mobile Power Bank, rethinks this design by allowing the power bank to stand upright, saving valuable horizontal space. This flexible design lets you position the power bank vertically or horizontally, with the ports conveniently located on the side, making them easy to access in either orientation.

However, the SJPB-400 does have limitations. Its wireless charger is located on the longer side so it can’t be used when standing vertically unless it incorporates a technology like MagSafe to keep devices in place. Additionally, the AC outlet on the opposite side remains inaccessible in the vertical position. The handles on each side, while helpful for portability, reduce its overall compactness and the dual-orientation design offers a fresh, space-saving approach to power stations.

Power banks have evolved from bulky necessities to sleek, multifunctional devices that complement our digital lifestyle. Today’s options range from nostalgic gaming-inspired designs to ergonomic models with built-in mirrors and versatile positioning capabilities. When selecting a power bank, consider capacity, charging speed, portability and safety features based on your specific needs. As battery technology continues to advance, we can expect even more innovative features, improved efficiency and creative designs. Whether you’re an audiophile needing constant power for your devices or a casual user seeking emergency backup, modern power banks offer practical solutions that balance functionality with personal style – ensuring your devices stay powered wherever life takes you.

The original Benchmade Bedlam holds a special place in the memory of knife enthusiasts — not because it was the most practical tool in the drawer, but because it looked like something straight out of a late-90s action thriller. Oversized, aggressive, and unapologetically tactical, the full-sized Bedlam, with its Persian scimitar-inspired blade and dramatic curves, was built for presence as much as performance. Fast forward to today, Benchmade has reimagined that same bold spirit in a more pocketable form with the Mini Bedlam — sharpened, streamlined, and ready for everyday carry without losing its cinematic charm.

The Mini Bedlam doesn’t fully subscribe to the word “mini,” though. At 8.63 inches overall with a 3.45-inch blade, it sits closer to the upper limits of what most people would call EDC-friendly. Yet, compared to the original 10-inch version, this is positively compact. The blade’s sweeping scimitar silhouette returns in full force, retaining the visual drama that made the first Bedlam stand out — a nod to Middle Eastern Jambiya daggers that have long influenced blade design. But this isn’t a museum piece. Benchmade clearly intended the Mini Bedlam to be a usable, carryable tool. It’s been upgraded with CPM S90V steel, offering incredible edge retention and toughness, two traits that the EDC crowd will instantly appreciate — especially if they actually intend to use the knife rather than just stare at it.

The handle is where Benchmade makes its most subtle, but smart, refinements. Gone is the slightly exaggerated tactical lean of the old model. In its place is an ergonomic grip with finger grooves that don’t bully your hand into submission but instead provide natural control. The steel liners, paired with either textured G10 or the fancier marbled carbon fiber scales, create a tactile feel that balances grip and comfort. The aftermarket-inspired backspacer, with its aggressive knurling, reinforces the knife’s utilitarian edge without feeling gimmicky.

Benchmade could have stopped at reissuing the shape and called it a day, but the material choices elevate the Mini Bedlam into enthusiast territory. The S90V blade stock is a touch thicker than usual at 0.114 inches, hinting at the knife’s intended workload. It’s built to cut, not just slice envelopes open. The deployment stays classic Benchmade, using the AXIS lock paired with a thumb stud for ambidextrous one-handed opening. The lockup feels reassuringly bank-vault solid, something veteran AXIS users have come to expect.

The knife is offered in three flavors — the 865SBK in all-black G10 (4.91oz), the 865BK-01 with a coyote tan and black combo (also G10, same weight), and the crown jewel, the 865-02, which trims down to 4.67oz thanks to its carbon fiber scales and adds copper PVD-coated hardware for good measure. These little details matter. That copper pivot collar? Completely unnecessary, but knife enthusiasts will grin the second they see it, knowing it’s exactly the kind of flourish that separates a tool from a collectible.

Pricing starts at $350 for the G10 variants and hits $450 for the carbon fiber model — not cheap, but Amazon does offer a discounted price of roughly $286. And with that price comes the usual Benchmade perks: a lifetime warranty and free LifeSharp service for sharpening and tune-ups, no questions asked (except for maybe why you keep dulling it so often).

For anyone who grew up watching Tony Stark casually summon the Iron Man Mk5 armor from a suitcase, the Hancept Zero Mk2 pen will trigger that same wide-eyed, kid-on-Christmas-morning reaction. This pen doesn’t just write—it transforms, unfolds, and assembles like a mechanical origami masterpiece. You don’t so much use the Zero Mk2 as you deploy it. Because while the world’s seen fountain pens, ballpoint pens, gel pens, and even those fancy bolt-action pens – nothing really matches up to this sheer over-engineered beauty that goes from a flat, 2mm-thick metal card to a fully functional, beautifully balanced hexagonal pen.

The lineage of EDC pens has always leaned into practicality. Compact, reliable, and unassuming—they do their job and stay out of the way. But the Zero Mk2 clearly didn’t get that memo. Hancept’s second-generation pen is unapologetically crafted for those who appreciate the sheer joy of precision mechanics. Made up of 54 meticulously machined components, the Mk2 is built from 6000 series aluminum alloy and 316L watch-grade stainless steel, giving it the same material pedigree you’d expect from a luxury timepiece. It’s assembled entirely by hand, like a mechanical watch, only this time, the ticking seconds are replaced by flowing ink.

The pen gives off a strong mecha vibe with its all-metal design. Whether opened flat, or rolled into its pen avatar, the thing looks like it means business, and I guarantee you, you’ll feel a sense of sheer childlike joy every time you deploy it. An entirely machined design means precision tolerances that allow parts to roll, slide, and lock with satisfying accuracy. And a magnet allows the pen to click shut in a way that’s sure to become a fidget action of sorts. Remember when owning a space pen made you the coolest person in a room? Well, this one’s sure to garner a few jaw-drops and hushed wows – and maybe a few “where did you get that from”s…

Hancept, a small but obsessive outfit from New York City, didn’t approach the Mk2 like a pen company. They approached it like watchmakers designing a kinetic sculpture. At first glance, it’s just a 3.375 by 2.125-inch metal card, barely thicker than two stacked credit cards at only 2mm. Nothing about its closed form suggests it’s capable of anything beyond looking cool and maybe shimming open a door in a spy movie. But in just a few seconds—three, to be precise—it rolls into a 3.85-inch hexagonal pen with a 0.47-inch diameter, locking together into a rigid, comfortable writing tool that you’d swear was always meant to be a pen, not a trick.

The magic isn’t just in the unfolding—it’s in the sheer precision of it all. The Zero Mk2 is cut from 6000 series aluminum alloy and 316L watch-grade stainless steel, milled to tolerances as tight as 0.00039 inches. That’s the kind of obsessive precision usually reserved for aerospace components and mechanical watches. Every segment, every slider, every tiny mechanism clicks together with mechanical poetry. It took Hancept two years, 34 design revisions, and 27 prototypes to nail this thing down, and it shows. Beyond just technically impressive, it’s emotionally satisfying.

Yet, for all its mechanical wizardry, the pen still gets the basics right. Unlike many EDC pens that prioritize compactness without much thought to the overall writing experience—the Mk2 is properly balanced with a 55/45 weight distribution. The hexagonal shape isn’t merely a function of its folding metal panel design; it actually provides a natural grip that feels familiar, steady, and surprisingly ergonomic, given how cold and robotic the pen initially seems.

Of course, what good is technical brilliance without daily usability? Hancept wisely avoided proprietary refills, instead opting for the readily available 0.7mm Staedtler D1 cartridge, which means you’re never scrambling for ink. And if you really want to put the pen on a pedestal—literally—the Deluxe Package includes a desk stand crafted from titanium PVD-coated steel with embedded N52 neodymium magnets. It holds the Zero Mk2 either flat or assembled, turning it into a conversation-starting sculpture for your workspace.

There’s an elegance to how it integrates into daily life too. When folded flat, it slips unnoticed into most card slots, including minimalist phone wallets. For anyone who’s streamlined their carry to just a MagSafe wallet or slim card holder, the Zero Mk2 quietly earns its spot without any bulk. No clip, no obvious protrusions—just a sleek, flat panel waiting for its mission. And although I don’t own a sample unit to test this theory out, the all-metal pen just might double as an RFID-blocking card when placed in your wallet too. Hope someone tries it out!

That said, this isn’t a mass-market pen for scribbling grocery lists. Starting at $199 (or $249 with the full Deluxe setup), it occupies a different echelon—one where craftsmanship, mechanical creativity, and aesthetic satisfaction matter as much as ink on paper. It’s for people who geek out over the details, who see beauty in machined tolerances and tiny mechanical linkages, and who want their EDC gear to have just a little cinematic magic baked in.

Pocket knives have become essential companions for outdoor enthusiasts and everyday carry (EDC) fans alike. These versatile tools help us tackle everything from opening packages to emergency situations on hiking trails. But while most folding knives embrace a rugged, tactical aesthetic that screams seriousness, the Landeriimote from Knafs dares to be different by drawing inspiration from one of gaming’s most iconic controllers: the Nintendo Wii Remote, or “Wiimote.”

The marriage between gaming nostalgia and practical cutting tools might seem unusual at first glance, but this limited-edition folding knife proves that functionality doesn’t have to sacrifice personality. The Landeriimote transforms the familiar white controller design into a fully functional pocket knife that performs as well as it entertains. With its pristine white handle and playful details, this knife brings a refreshing twist to the typically stern world of EDC gear.

Designer: Michael Reed for Knafs

Looking at the Landeriimote’s handle, gaming enthusiasts will immediately recognize the faithful recreation of Nintendo’s revolutionary controller. Every detail has been meticulously captured, from the directional pad and A button on the front to the B trigger on the underside. The designers even included the signature wrist strap that prevented countless televisions from meeting their demise during enthusiastic gaming sessions, now repurposed to keep your knife secure during outdoor adventures.

Despite its playful appearance, the Landeriimote doesn’t compromise on performance. Built on Knafs’ reliable Lander 2 platform, this special edition knife features premium S35VN blade steel that holds an edge through tough cutting tasks. The knife deploys smoothly with a satisfying action, proving that serious cutting capability can coexist with whimsical design elements. When closed, the blade disappears completely into the handle, maintaining the controller-inspired aesthetic.

The Landeriimote represents a refreshing departure from the notion that outdoor and EDC gear must always project toughness and utility above all else. This limited-edition knife demonstrates that tools can express personality while still performing their intended functions admirably. For gamers who love the outdoors or knife enthusiasts with a playful side, this unique blade offers the perfect blend of nostalgia and practicality.

What makes the Landeriimote truly special is how it bridges different worlds. The knife celebrates the revolutionary Wii controller that changed gaming by introducing motion controls to millions of players worldwide. Now that same innovative spirit lives on in a tool that accompanies adventures beyond the screen. Whether you’re setting up camp, preparing food on a trail, or just handling everyday tasks, this knife brings a smile along with its cutting edge.
