Healthcare systems around the world are under pressure, and South Korea is no exception. With a single healthcare professional often responsible for 16 to 43 patients, providing personalized, one-on-one rehabilitation becomes a nearly impossible task. Legit, an AI-powered walking aid, steps in to meet this challenge, offering a smarter, more efficient way to deliver high-quality rehab training without overburdening medical staff.

Legit is designed to support patients as they approach the walking stage of recovery. It enables them to train independently while still benefiting from expert-level oversight. At the heart of its functionality is the seamless integration of artificial intelligence and wearable technology, allowing for real-time feedback, remote monitoring, and adaptive support tailored to each patient’s condition.

Designers: eunhye jangi jeongsuYun A Jang, and Yunjae Shin

Before training begins, patients attach a wearable EMG (electromyography) sensor patch to their thigh or calf. This patch detects muscle activity and communicates directly with the walking aid. The AI system analyzes this data in real time, adjusting training programs to suit the patient’s progress and condition. This not only personalizes the rehabilitation experience but also ensures that the patient remains safe and supported throughout their session.

Training with Legit isn’t passive, it’s purposeful. Patients follow an LED light beam projected onto the floor, which guides their stride and pace during walking exercises. The walker’s built-in display delivers intuitive feedback, showing real-time updates on speed, distance, and muscle engagement. It’s like having a digital coach on wheels, one that’s always responsive, never tired, and perfectly calibrated to the user’s needs.

For healthcare professionals, Legit is just as transformative. Through a centralized application, staff can manage multiple devices with ease. They start by selecting an available walker, checking its battery level, and turning it on. The system then displays the latest patient feedback, allowing medical staff to assess progress and identify any concerns. Based on this information, the AI suggests optimized training modes tailored to the patient’s rehabilitation stage. Once selected, these modes are linked to the device, and the session begins, all from a remote interface. This streamlined process enables minimal staffing without compromising the quality of care.

Legit allows patients to train within hospital track systems, where support is nearby if needed, but not constantly required. The walker adjusts in real time, helping patients fine-tune their gait, build strength, and regain mobility in a controlled, monitored environment. The combination of autonomy for the patient and oversight for the staff strikes a perfect balance, making rehab both accessible and effective.

More than just a walking aid, Legit represents a new mindset in rehabilitation—one where intelligent systems and human care work hand in hand. By reducing the dependency on constant physical supervision, it frees up valuable time for healthcare workers while empowering patients to take an active role in their recovery.

Imagine a bike helmet that doesn’t just absorb impact, it actively contracts to reduce crash forces, keeping your head safer than ever before. Researchers at the Universities of Gothenburg and Isfahan have developed a revolutionary 3D-printed bicycle helmet that does just that. Thanks to cutting-edge auxetic metastructures, this futuristic helmet promises to outperform traditional foam-based designs, offering better protection and a more personalized fit.

For years, cyclists have relied on helmets lined with foam padding to absorb shock during accidents. While these helmets have undoubtedly saved lives, they come with limitations. Foam can degrade over time, provide uneven protection, and often fail to conform perfectly to an individual’s head shape.

Designer: Researchers at the Universities of Gothenburg and Isfahan

The new 3D-printed helmet, however, takes a completely different approach. It incorporates auxetic metastructures, a specialized geometric pattern that reacts uniquely to impact. Unlike conventional materials or honeycomb structures, these auxetic patterns contract bilaterally upon impact. Instead of just compressing, the structure pulls inwards, dissipating energy more efficiently and reducing the risk of head injuries.

This helmet’s protective layer is 3D-printed using a hyperelastic polymer, a plastic material capable of stretching and deforming significantly while returning to its original shape. This feature ensures that the helmet can withstand impact after impact without losing its protective qualities.

To validate the concept, researchers conducted standardized impact tests, simulating different types of cycling accidents. The results? This new helmet provided significantly better head protection compared to conventional foam-lined helmets.

One of the standout advantages of this innovation is customization. Traditional helmets often come in standard sizes that may not fit every head shape perfectly. However, with 3D printing technology, the auxetic liner can be tailored to an individual’s head dimensions, offering a snugger, more comfortable, and more effective fit.

This could be a game-changer for professional athletes, cyclists with unique head shapes, or those who have struggled to find a comfortable helmet. A well-fitted helmet doesn’t just feel better, it also provides better protection by minimizing gaps where impact forces could concentrate.

Currently, 3D-printed helmets are more expensive to produce than their foam-based counterparts. However, researchers believe that as 3D printing technology advances and becomes more affordable, costs will drop significantly. In the near future, on-demand, personalized helmets could become the new standard.

Beyond cycling, this breakthrough in auxetic metastructures has massive potential for other protective gear. Imagine sports helmets, body armor, and protective pads designed with the same dynamic material properties, offering better impact resistance across multiple industries.

This research represents a bold step toward smarter, safer, and more adaptive protective equipment. The future of cycling safety isn’t just about wearing a helmet—it’s about wearing a helmet designed to protect you like never before.

]]>

Dashboard cameras, more popularly known by the name “dashcams,” have pretty much become a staple of modern vehicles. Although they don’t exactly prevent accidents from occurring, they can offer peace of mind knowing that you will have the recording you need for resolving matters after the fact. Humans don’t have dashboards, of course, but the equivalent body cameras or body cams are utilized by law enforcers for almost the same purpose, serving as a deterrent to both crime and abuse.

Cars and police aren’t the only ones who need such protection and promises of safety, though. For the longest time, ordinary folk are left to fend for themselves or resort to action cameras to get similar footage. SLIMDESIGN is trying to challenge that status quo with a body cam that is small enough to easily pin on your clothes yet also capable enough to offer some sense of security, especially in case of an emergency.

Designer: SLIMDESIGN

We’ve had our fill of AI pins that turn out to be vaporware, but thankfully this isn’t the case here even though the design almost looks like one. PhoneCam is meant more for safety and security, with AI as just the icing on top. Unless, of course, you are completely dependent on that AI companion, which actually demonstrates one of the key strengths of this wearable AI device.

At its heart, though, PhoneCam is a small bodycam made especially for your average consumer, recording footage during emergencies, sending distress signals, and even providing real-time video to emergency contacts. The reason why it’s so small is that it doesn’t contain much hardware, leveraging your smartphone’s capabilities instead. That includes CPU for AI applications, GPS for location, and cellular or Wi-Fi networks for connectivity. Because of that, PhoneCam also promises to be more affordable, making it accessible to people outside of law enforcement, military, and the like.

And yes, it does have some AI functionality, though it’s being advertised as a way to help people navigate the world around them. This is especially useful for persons with vision impairments, turning PhoneCam into something like a bionic eye. Given that the AI is really running on your phone, there is also plenty of room for additional functionality, giving it the potential to be a true AI assistant.

PhoneCam’s petite pill-shaped design is both a strength and a potential privacy problem. While it does make it easy to place the camera anywhere on your person without getting in your way or looking too obnoxious, it also prevents other people from immediately recognizing a recording device. Yes, it has a strong light that indicates when it’s currently active, but not everyone might be able to quickly clue in on that fact before their face gets potentially recorded as they pass by. Still, it’s an interesting design with lots of potential, and hopefully, it won’t go the way of certain AI-focused wearable cameras.

This Signal-Blocking EDC Pouch Uses Military-Grade Tech To Make Your Phone Untraceable

]]>

Designed to work as a Faraday cage, SLNT’s Faraday Phone Sleeve creates a barrier that traps your phone’s ability to communicate with the outside world. It’s akin to switching your phone off, but without the hassle. Pop it in and your device goes off the grid – no network, no signal, no WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, nothing. Why would you want such a pouch? Well, for privacy, of course.

Obviously the Faraday Phone Sleeve isn’t for everyone, but it’s the kind of pouch I’d definitely consider having. Your phone is quite literally an all-hearing device that indiscriminately shares information with your phone maker, service provider, the government, and all the apps that track you through your mic, your location, and your phone use. “By placing your phone or device inside, you can instantly disconnect from the grid, making yourself undetectable, untraceable, and unhackable,” says SLNT.

Designer: SLNT

Crafted with military-grade shielding technology, the sleeve blocks all incoming and outgoing signals – cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS. The engineering behind it draws from the same principles that protect government facilities, but SLNT has managed to compress this technology into something that slides effortlessly into a back pocket. The secret lies in SLNT’s patented Silent Pocket® faraday technology that works remarkably well. Put your phone in the pouch and close the magnetic flap and it’s practically off the grid. If you want connectivity, take the phone out. It’s that simple.

The pouch is a nifty EDC accessory that stores your phone along with perhaps a charging cable. It comes in 3 sizes, working with practically any smartphone. The Silent Pocket® tech relies on SLNT’s Multishield® fabric, which blocks any signal from passing through. It’s military-grade (it follows the MIL-STD certification) and comes in 4 classic color combinations.

To use the phone sleeve, simply slide your phone into the pouch, ensuring it sits below the metal ribs. Once that’s done, shut the magnetic flap and you’re done. The phone is officially untraceable, unhackable, and totally offline for all intents and purposes.

Why can’t I just use Airplane Mode instead, you’re probably asking. Well, Airplane Mode only shuts off the WiFi and Cellular modems. Your phone is much more connected beyond those two. It still uses GPS, Bluetooth, RFID, NFC, satellite connectivity, and most phones even have an FM chip for emergency broadcasts. Slipping your phone into the Faraday sleeve blocks those out too. It also shields your phone against EMPs, solar flares, static shocks, etc.

To be honest, the Faraday Phone Sleeve is an incredibly niche product – but it’s great for anyone who’s privacy-conscious. If you’re someone who doesn’t want your phone being tracked or hacked while it’s idle, just slide it into the pouch and you’re good to go. I just have two recommendations – for the love of god, don’t do anything illegal, and don’t lose your Faraday phone sleeve with the phone inside it – there’s no way you’re ever finding that device again!

]]>

Thanks to Boston Dynamics and the popularity of its designs, people may have a specific image when they hear about robot dogs, and it isn’t always a flattering one. Granted, some of Spot’s more recent descendants are less unnerving, even bordering on being cute, but the headless variety is probably imprinted on people’s consciousness, for better or worse. This concept, in contrast, might call itself a robot dog, but it doesn’t even have four legs like ol’ Spot.

Instead, this airport security robot is focused more on replicating the behavior and capabilities of its furry counterparts, particularly when it comes to detecting illegal substances. With advanced functionality and a more streamlined appearance, the design focuses more on how the robot can be better integrated into airports and public spaces without causing too much of a distraction or being the center of attraction.

Designer: Minseok Bae

Dogs are excellent sniffers, at least when they’re at their best. Just like humans, however, their uncanny canine abilities dwindle over the course of the day and can be affected by other factors. They can even be thrown off the scent, especially in very crowded places like airports. Even worse, their own safety is at risk when inhaling substances that might be more harmful to dogs than they are to humans.

SNIFF is a concept of a robot dog that actually doesn’t look much like a dog. Its main purpose is to help improve airport security by using advanced sensors and AI to better detect illegal substances going through the area. Yes, it could very well replace detection dogs at least in this particular job, but there are places and situations where K-9 units are better off handling than in a high-traffic, high-stress environment like an airport.

What makes SNIFF’s design notable is that while it tries to emulate certain canine behaviors, it doesn’t attempt to look like one. It’s designed for efficiency rather than demonstrating some advanced robotics features, like climbing up or down stairs when it doesn’t really need to in an airport. It can detach from wall-mounted wireless chargers and roll out where it’s needed. It can also make turns more quickly than a robot quadruped that has to try to balance itself at every step.

SNIFF is admittedly not much to look at once the novelty has worn off, which is actually an advantage in this case. It won’t cause a spectacle or draw crowds that would prevent it from doing its job properly. Just like those hospitality or assistive robots on wheels, people will learn to simply ignore the robot or stay out of its way to let it sniff their belongings in a non-intrusive manner.

DJI is invincible when it comes to compact drones loaded with features and advanced collision avoidance tech. DJI Mini 4 Pro and Mavic 3 Pro leave buyers with very little scope for getting anything else – they are so good. But any number of factors can put your flying machine at risk of crashing on the rocks, no matter how good are the sensors onboard. Bad weather, abrupt bird collisions, signal loss, or battery outages can toast your expensive drone beyond repair.

Since a drone is indispensable for any number of industries ranging from entertainment, content creation, logistics, or purely for personal purposes – the next drone evolution is more than welcome. Meet Emeth designed by Design House (a division of SAES) this drone is all about safety when operating in inhospitable and unknown terrain. A Nitinol-based project, it poses a significant step forward in drone technology.

Designer: SAES

The drone is a result of advanced material science and the vision for developing practical safety solutions. It is made out of the Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) method wherein the aluminum-magnesium alloy is molded into a single-body drone. Just for the record, this material has more strength and is lighter than carbon fiber. Emeth comes with a never-before-seen airbag system that deploys in a mere 40 milliseconds in case the drone comes falling from the sky. This is vital in emergencies to minimize the impact on the ground. The airbag itself is reusable and lightweight enough to deploy on the drone again.

SAES has patented this inflatable airbag technology in major jurisdictions like Europe, the United States, Japan, and China. The gimbals have also been replaced by Nitinol, an advanced memory alloy that stabilizes the camera for high-quality footage, and also powers the airbag system. This material is compact and reduces bulk, so the drone has more carrying capacity and longer operation time. The whole framework of the flying machine is centered on optimal load distribution and the highest torsional strength possible.

Emeth comes with a transparent protective shell that makes it an exciting gadget to own. The see-through shell exposes the internal workings of the machine which makes it visually appealing. Just like Nothing popularized transparent aesthetics for its gadgets, and the likes of the Nintendo Game Boy Color Clear and Pontiac Ghost, this drone will also carry a distinct appeal among the competition. For now, Emeth is a work in progress and we can’t wait to see what the final iteration of this cool drone will be like.

When an earthquake strikes, power outages are common, leaving you in complete darkness. The Safe-Ever desk lamp instantly converts into a portable flashlight, offering a powerful beam to illuminate evacuation routes. Its design ensures easy grip and operation, so you can quickly find your way out or signal for help in low-visibility conditions.

Helmet: Debris from collapsing structures poses a significant threat during earthquakes. The lamp’s durable outer shell doubles as a helmet, providing robust protection for your head. With an ergonomic fit and adjustable straps, it offers maximum comfort while shielding you from falling objects, reducing the risk of head injuries.

Emergency Radio: Staying informed can be a lifesaver in chaotic situations. The integrated emergency radio keeps you updated with real-time disaster broadcasts, weather reports, and evacuation alerts. It features a long-lasting battery and manual crank or solar charging options, ensuring it remains functional when you need it most.

Doorbell: Fire-Safe Necklace Light

Necklace Light: At first glance, the Safe-Ever doorbell is a simple home accessory. However, during a fire, it becomes an invaluable lifesaver. In fire emergencies where visibility can be severely compromised by smoke, the Safe-Ever doorbell transforms into a wearable necklace light, providing hands-free illumination to guide you through dark, smoke-filled spaces. Its lightweight design ensures freedom of movement, allowing you to carry children, pets, or essential belongings while staying visible to rescuers.

Breath Towel: Inhaling smoke and toxic gases is one of the greatest dangers during a fire. The Safe-Ever doorbell includes a breath towel – a wet mask embedded with a high-efficiency filter to reduce exposure to harmful particulates. The towel provides critical respiratory protection, giving you precious minutes to escape safely.

Tissue Box: Everyday First Aid

ICE Card: The Safe-Ever tissue box functions as both a practical household item and an emergency medical kit. It features a built-in In Case of Emergency (ICE) card, securely storing critical health information such as allergies, medications, medical conditions, and emergency contact numbers. During medical emergencies, this card enables responders to deliver prompt and accurate care, minimizing delays and potential complications.

First Aid Kit: Hidden within the tissue box is a compact first aid kit, equipped with essential medical supplies for treating minor injuries such as cuts, abrasions, and burns. The kit includes items like adhesive bandages, antiseptic wipes, gauze pads, and medical tape, ensuring you’re prepared to handle common household mishaps or provide immediate care during larger emergencies.

The Safe-Ever brand prioritizes accessibility and approachability, rethinking the way safety products are perceived and used. Its design philosophy incorporates a circular logo inspired by a life-saving star, symbolizing protection and guidance. Simplified iconography, featuring roundhouse and star motifs, ensures instant recognition of the products. A rounded font enhances both readability and friendliness, while a warm orange color palette replaces traditional red tones, providing a calming sense of stability even in emergencies. However, the visibility of the color in a hazy environment like smoke should be tested, as red is a color that

Each product is housed in a thoughtfully designed box, accompanied by a clear instruction manual. The packaging is not only functional but also aesthetically aligned with modern interiors, reinforcing the idea that safety can blend effortlessly into daily life.

Whether it’s an earthquake, a fire, or a household injury, it stands as a guardian, ready to protect lives and homes without compromising on style or convenience. Most of the time when we see characters on TV shows and movies wearing tinfoil hats and covering the room in tinfoil as well, we laugh at them and think they’re just paranoid, conspiracy theorists. But with what we’ve been experiencing lately when it comes to privacy, security, and even the effect of technology on our health, we can’t help but think they may have a point. We won’t go so far as to actually covering our whole house in tinfoil, but there are some products now being created to help protect people to a certain degree.

Designer: Vollebak

Vollebak is known for their future-forward clothes, particularly the advanced materials that they use for things like shirts, pants, and jackets. Normally, we just wear the latter when we’re cold or sometime even to protect us from the elements. But with the brand’s newest product, the Shielding Jacket, you can wear it to shield yourself from infrared cameras, protect yourself from bacteria and other harmful elements, and even block electromagnetic radiation. You probably will never be paranoid when you’re wearing this jacket. And since it uses the same electromagnetic shielding technology used for the Mars Rover, you can also be space ready to a certain degree.

The outer material uses a base of lightweight ripstop nylon which is then metallised with a process that uses pure silver “grown into the fabric”. This means that the silver makes up 20% of the material’s composition and is actually embedded into the fiber. Because it is electrically conductive and antimicrobial, it can kill bacteria and also reflect electromagnetic energy including radio waves, wifi, bluetooth, ku-band satellites, and radar systems. When you wear the jacket, you cannot be seen on infrared cameras. So if you’re on some kind of stealth mission, the jacket can render you invisible from these kinds of cameras with mid and long wave infrared radiation.

And if you really want to protect your phone from being hacked or tracked, the jacket has two faraday cage pockets that blocks access to your device even when it’s turned off. The pockets are on the left chest and inside the right side pocket. But there are also regular side zipped pockets with storm flaps. If you think having a jacket like this is uncomfortable, it’s actually designed just like a normal lightweight jacket with a soft polyester lining, except that it has a metallic sheen and embedded silver that can turn you into the most protected individual.
