Studio Saransh, an Indian architecture practice, has designed its own workspace, Oasis, in the suburbs of Ahmedabad. Covering 1,170 square meters, the project reflects the studio’s move from the city center to a quieter, more peaceful location. The design pairs black basalt with steel, giving the workspace a distinct, modern character.

Oasis is organized into five separate blocks arranged around a central, sunken courtyard. Open walkways connect these blocks, encouraging employees to move outside and enjoy natural light and fresh air throughout the day. This layout fosters a calm, collaborative environment, away from the bustle of the city. “The walkways not only facilitate movement but also serve as communal spaces, encouraging chance encounters and fostering spontaneous collaborations among the studio’s inhabitants,” said the studio.

Designer: Studio Saransh

The entrance to the campus is set deliberately apart from the main buildings, guiding staff on a brief walk along a rubble wall draped in bougainvillea before they reach their desks. This pathway creates a sense of arrival and transition into the workspace. On the western side of the lake, the campus features its larger blocks: the main studio and a cluster of cabins for the studio’s partners.

The main studio is defined by its double-height volume and a north-facing roof that brings in consistent, natural light. A mezzanine level has been incorporated to accommodate future growth, offering additional workspace without altering the building’s footprint. This mezzanine is connected directly to the partner cabins via a bridge that spans the central courtyard, fostering easy movement and visual connection across the workspace. “The planning fosters collaboration, accommodates diverse work preferences, and encourages a strong connection with the environment,” said Studio Saransh director Malay Doshi.

On the eastern side of the sunken courtyard, a series of smaller blocks are thoughtfully arranged to support the campus’s daily operations. These include a service block, an administrative block, and a cluster of meeting rooms. The meeting rooms are positioned to overlook a secluded court in the northeast corner of the site, where rows of lemongrass add a touch of greenery and fragrance to the surroundings, creating a calming atmosphere for gatherings and discussions.

The central courtyard itself is carefully designed to connect the various buildings and levels across the campus. One side of the courtyard features broad steps that gently descend, guiding visitors downward as they move westward. This subtle gradient helps to ease the transition between different heights of the site’s blocks, ensuring a harmonious flow and minimizing abrupt elevation changes. “One of the biggest surprises during execution was how the land modulation combined with the landscaping transformed the perceived scale of the space,” said Doshi. “By sinking portions of the site and layering it with tall grasses, the design was able to create an intimate, human-scaled courtyard despite the surrounding buildings.”

At the lowest level of the courtyard, a spacious lily pond has been created, accented with lights designed to mimic the appearance of reeds. “The water contributes to the sensory experience, creating a soothing ambiance, while helping the courtyard stay cooler through the day,” said the studio. “Visitors in the courtyard become active participants in this unfolding narrative of a day at the studio. One can find people in this space all through the day, having enthusiastic discussions over a coffee, having a heated argument with someone over a phone, watching tiny fishes in the pond getting eaten by herons or just sitting and sketching.”

Sculptural organizer will bring order into your creative chaos

]]>

Since I spend an ungodly number of hours in front of my desk, I always want to change things up so I won’t get bored with the same old things. I also have a lot of stuff around me so I need to organize them so i can find them easily when I need them (although, oftentimes, I still can’t find them). So what I usually look for in desk organizers is something that’s aesthetically pleasing but is also highly functional. Ideally, organization is key for efficiency and also to bring a sense of calm and focus.

Designer: Yuxi Liu

KIIR, a sculptural desk organizer, aims to be more than just a storage solution; it’s a statement piece that brings aesthetic harmony to the creative process. Designed with a minimalist yet captivating form, it is able to move beyond the traditional, purely functional desk organizer. Its silhouette features flowing lines and thoughtfully placed indentations and platforms. These aren’t just random curves; they are meticulously crafted to cradle the everyday tools of a creative professional: pens, pencils, notebooks, even small tablets or phones. The design invites interaction, encouraging users to arrange their items in a way that is both practical and visually pleasing.

The designer’s intention is to create an object that feels like a natural extension of the workspace, almost like a found object with inherent beauty. This is achieved through the choice of materials and finishes, with the emphasis on a “sculptural” feel suggesting a focus on quality and tactile experience. Imagine a smooth, matte finish in a neutral tone, allowing it to seamlessly integrate into various desk aesthetics, or perhaps a bolder color that adds a touch of personality. Functionality is, of course, at the core of this desk organizer. The different levels and compartments cater to various needs. Smaller nooks might hold paperclips or erasers, while broader surfaces can accommodate larger items. This thoughtful distribution ensures that everything has its place, reducing visual clutter and making it easier to find what you need, when you need it.

But KIIR’s appeal goes beyond mere utility. Its sculptural nature adds an element of visual interest. In a world of often bland office accessories, KIIR stands out as a piece of art in its own right. It elevates the act of organizing, transforming it from a chore into an almost ritualistic act of arranging and curating one’s creative tools. For those like me who value both form and function in their workspace, this is an intriguing option.

]]>

I’ve got a confession to make. I’m writing this with my office door closed, noise-canceling headphones on, and I’ve told my team I’m “in deep work mode” – all because my productivity is hanging by a thread today. If only I had a flashing neon sign that screamed “LEAVE ME ALONE” without making me look like a complete jerk.

Enter the Busy Bar from Flipper Devices – the same folks who brought us the Flipper Zero (that delightful little gadget that makes security professionals simultaneously smile and cringe). This chunky little white-and-orange device is essentially a digital “Do Not Disturb” sign on steroids. It’s like they took the aesthetic of a 90s Tamagotchi, merged it with modern productivity theory, and created something that would look perfectly at home next to your mechanical keyboard and desk succulents.

Designer: Flipper

The 72×16 RGB LED matrix is the star of the show. Want to tell your roommate you’re on a Zoom call? Or perhaps warn your colleagues that interrupting your current coding session might result in violence? The Busy Bar lets you display custom messages that communicate exactly how unavailable you are. I’m already imagining programming mine with increasingly passive-aggressive messages as the day wears on. there’s even a mirrored monochrome screen on the back for YOU, the user, to look at – so you can confirm your status is broadcasting properly without having to crane your neck around. It’s these little UX touches that show the Flipper team actually uses the products they design.

What really tickles my gadget-loving brain is how they’ve integrated the Pomodoro technique. As someone who can’t focus for more than 25 minutes without checking Twitter (sorry, “X”), having a physical timer that also broadcasts “THIS HUMAN IS TRYING TO FOCUS” to the world is brilliant. The Busy Bar can also automatically activate when it detects microphone activity or when you’re streaming. No more forgetting to toggle your status when jumping into an impromptu call. For someone who’s constantly being asked “are you in a meeting?” while visibly wearing headphones and talking to my screen, this feature alone is worth the price of admission.

The tech specs are impressively overkill for what’s essentially a smart status indicator – Silicon Labs wireless processor, STM32U5M MCU running at 160MHz, 2.5MB RAM, and a whopping 16GB of storage. That’s more computing power than the spacecraft that landed on the moon, all to tell people you’re busy. What a time to be alive! Battery life is surprisingly robust too – up to two weeks on standby or eight hours of active use. And with USB-C charging that takes just an hour for a full charge, it’s clear they understand the device needs to be ready when you are.

I’m particularly fond of the physical controls – the scroll wheel, buttons, and 5-position selector feel like a deliberate throwback. In an era where everything is touch-controlled or voice-activated, it’s satisfying to have physical interaction with your tech. I don’t know about you but I also absolutely loathe touchscreens. It’s like the designers understand that sometimes you want to aggressively click a button rather than navigate a screen-based interface when you’re entering focus mode.

What’s clever is how they’ve thought about mounting options – desk stand, wall mount, or door mount. The door mount option is especially genius for home office workers. Nothing says “Dad is working, please don’t burst in asking for a snack” like a glowing LED bar announcing your unavailability.

Support for Matter makes smart home integration fairly easy too. Imagine walking into your workspace, setting the Busy Bar to “DEEP WORK,” and watching as your lights dim, your smart speakers switch to lo-fi beats, and your phone notifications silence themselves. Theoretically possible if you set up a complex IFTTT routine – simple when you just program your Busy Bar to just do what you need it to do, flawlessly, every time, without worrying about things falling apart when you make changes to your smart home network.

The Busy Bar maintains that open-source philosophy with its HTTP API and SDKs in Python, Go, and JavaScript. This means the tinkerers who loved the Flipper Zero can still get their hands dirty customizing their Busy Bar to do exactly what they want. Want to integrate it with your home automation system to automatically dim the lights when you’re in focus mode? Go for it. Want it to display your Spotify track when you’re in “music mode”? That’s probably just a few lines of code away.

For those unfamiliar with Flipper’s previous claim to fame, the Flipper Zero is essentially a Swiss Army knife for hardware hackers – a portable multi-tool that can interact with digital systems from RFID cards to infrared remotes to wireless protocols. It gained something of a cult following for its ability to clone key cards, capture radio signals, and generally cause mischief in the right (or wrong) hands.
It’s truly fascinating how Flipper pivoted from their Zero device (beloved by security tinkerers and occasionally frowned upon by corporate IT departments and governments) to something aimed squarely at productivity. It’s like watching your rebellious hacker friend suddenly get really into bullet journaling and time-blocking. The same open-source DNA is there, but channeled into helping you get your TPS reports done on time.

Simply put, the Busy Bar is solving a very human problem with technology: how do we communicate our need for uninterrupted time without being potentially snarky or mean about it? In our hybrid work environments, open-plan offices, and shared living spaces, having a visual cue that says “I’m in the zone” feels increasingly necessary.

Will it stop your cat from walking across your keyboard? Probably not. But for human interrupters, this chunky little status indicator might just be the boundary-setting tool we never knew we needed.

Ever wished your desk could do more than just sit there looking boring? Say hello to the ALTI PLAY Performance Desk Mat, the workspace upgrade that’ll make both your gaming sessions and workdays way more awesome! It levels up your average desk mat into a multifunctional command center disguised as a sleek surface for your mouse and keyboard. With built-in wireless charging, customizable RGB lighting, and a premium feel that’ll make your setup Instagram-worthy, the ALTI PLAY is about to become your desk’s new best friend.

What makes this mat truly special is how it seamlessly blends functionality with that “gotta have it” factor that’ll make your gaming buddies green with envy. The large 900 x 400mm surface gives you plenty of room for sweeping mouse movements during intense gaming sessions, while the precision-engineered surface ensures your every click and drag is smooth as butter. Plus, with its water-resistant design, you can say goodbye to panic attacks when you inevitably knock over your energy drink during that crucial boss battle.

Designer: Journey

The star of the show has to be the removable magnetic charging panel that attaches to either side of the mat. This clever little addition packs a 15W fast wireless charger that’ll juice up your phone or earbuds while you’re fragging enemies or crushing spreadsheets. No more fumbling with cables or watching your battery percentage drop during marathon gaming sessions. Just place your device on the pad and keep your focus where it belongs: on dominating the leaderboards.

RGB lighting isn’t just for show (though it does look pretty sweet) and the customizable edge lighting on the ALTI PLAY can sync with your gaming setup to create an immersive atmosphere that pulls you deeper into your virtual worlds. The subtle glow adds just the right amount of flair without being distracting, and you can easily adjust brightness levels or turn it off completely when you’re switching from gaming mode to work mode. Your desk setup just leveled up from “functional” to “fantastically cool” with minimal effort.

Setup couldn’t be easier: just connect the USB-C cable to your computer or power adapter, and you’re ready to go. The mat’s slim profile keeps it from feeling bulky on your desk, while still providing enough cushioning to make long gaming or working sessions comfortable on your wrists. And unlike those cheap mats that curl up at the edges after a few weeks, the ALTI PLAY stays perfectly flat thanks to its premium construction and weighted design. It’s the kind of accessory that makes you wonder how you ever lived without it once you’ve experienced the difference.

Brutalist Aluminum Office Stationery Set Is the Perfect Prop for Severance

]]>

Office supplies have undergone a transformation in recent years, with manufacturers embracing warmer, more personalized designs to make workspaces feel inviting and homey. Gone are the days when corporate equipment prioritized pure functionality with cold, clinical aesthetics. Yet there’s something oddly captivating about that stark utilitarian approach—the uncompromising focus on efficiency over comfort that defined traditional office environments for decades.

For those who find beauty in minimalism and industrial design, there’s a new aluminum stationery set that deliberately embraces the clinical, detached aesthetic of traditional office equipment. With its sharp angles, monochromatic palette, and unadorned surfaces, this brutalist collection would look right at home on the desks of Lumon Industries, the mysterious corporation from Apple TV+’s hit sci-fi psychological thriller “Severance,” where employees undergo a surgical procedure that separates their work memories from their personal lives.

Designer: Blanked Studios

For those unfamiliar with Severance, the show depicts Lumon Industries as a shadowy megacorporation where selected employees undergo a controversial procedure that surgically divides their consciousness between work and personal life. Inside Lumon’s sterile, maze-like offices, workers navigate an environment that’s simultaneously retro and futuristic, with stark brutalist architecture and minimalist design that creates an atmosphere of beautiful alienation, the perfect setting for this aluminum stationery collection.

The desktop folder stands out as particularly intriguing, mimicking the literal shape of a paper folder while serving as a modern organizational tool. Its clean lines and metallic finish create a striking visual statement while providing practical storage for notebooks, documents, or digital devices. The design cleverly bridges analog and digital worlds, functioning as a physical manifestation of the computer folder icon and a tangible connection between traditional office culture and our increasingly digital workspace.

The valet tray exemplifies precision craftsmanship, carved from a single aluminum block with meticulous attention to detail. Its compartments are thoughtfully sized to accommodate modern essentials like smartphones and tablets, creating a designated parking space that keeps your desk organized with military precision. The metal’s cool touch and substantial weight provide a satisfying tactile experience that mass-produced plastic organizers simply cannot match.

Adding to the collection’s appeal are stackable aluminum coasters featuring subtle inward-curving edges. These seemingly simple objects demonstrate how brutalist design can achieve elegance through restraint, with each curve and angle precisely calculated for both visual impact and practical function. When not in use, they stack into a compact metallic tower that serves as a minimalist sculpture for your workspace—functional art that celebrates industrial aesthetics.

The industrial accent lamp introduces a slight deviation from the all-metal theme with its wooden center element. However, when positioned to face a wall, the light diffuses through only the metal components and reflections, maintaining the collection’s cohesive brutalist appearance. The contrast between warm illumination and cold metal creates a compelling visual tension that adds depth to the otherwise monochromatic palette, proving that even the most austere design philosophy can incorporate elements of warmth.

While this stationery set isn’t an official collaboration with the fictional Lumon Industries (that would require some serious interdimensional paperwork), it demonstrates how well-executed design can transcend specific contexts to become universally appealing. The collection speaks to our fascination with workspaces that prioritize order and efficiency, creating environments where everything has its place and purpose. For fans of “Severance,” minimalist design enthusiasts, or office workers seeking to make a bold statement, these aluminum pieces offer a compelling alternative to the softer, more approachable office supplies flooding today’s market.

]]>

Finding enough storage space on your desk can feel like an impossible challenge. Between pens, sticky notes, paper clips, and all those random bits that accumulate throughout the workday, even the most organized among us can quickly run out of places to stash our essentials. The problem becomes even more frustrating with modern minimalist desks that often come without built-in drawers, leaving you with nowhere to hide the clutter that inevitably builds up during busy workdays.

While rolling storage cabinets offer one solution, they take up valuable floor space and can feel like overkill for storing smaller items. What many office workers and home desk enthusiasts really need is a simple, non-permanent solution that adds just enough storage without requiring tools, installation expertise, or modifications that might violate office policies or damage furniture. Enter the Practiko Otis Hanger 3.0, a clever hanging drawer system that attaches to your desk without a single screw or permanent alteration.

Designer: Practiko

The Otis Hanger represents the latest evolution in Practiko’s innovative line of desk accessories that began several years ago when the company identified a growing need for add-on storage solutions. As more workplaces and home offices embraced sleek, drawer-free desk designs, Practiko responded with space-efficient accessories that could add storage capacity without compromising desk aesthetics or requiring permanent modifications. Their latest iteration builds upon this foundation with thoughtful improvements to capacity, ergonomics, and versatility.

What makes the Otis Hanger 3.0 particularly brilliant is its straightforward installation process: simply clip it onto the edge of your desk, and you instantly gain three versatile storage trays without sacrificing any of your valuable desktop real estate. The hanging design tucks neatly beneath your work surface, keeping your essentials within easy reach while maintaining a clean, uncluttered appearance above. This proves especially valuable for shared workspaces where drilling holes or making permanent changes simply isn’t an option.

The three included trays offer impressive versatility, with adjustable dividers that let you customize the internal layout to accommodate everything from standard office supplies to personal items like snacks, charging cables, or even small electronic devices. The latest design increases the capacity of each tray compared to previous versions, giving you more room for all those little necessities that previously cluttered your workspace or disappeared into desk drawers never to be found again.

Practicality extends to every aspect of the design, with the 3.0 version featuring more perforation points along the frame that allow for finer adjustments to divider positioning. Whether you prefer evenly spaced compartments or want to create a larger area for bulkier items, the system adapts to your organizational style rather than forcing you to adapt to it. The Otis Hanger also includes three mini trays that nest within the larger compartments, perfect for tiny items like paper clips, thumbtacks, or earbuds. The ability to lift out these mini trays also makes it easy to temporarily bring small supplies to another location without disturbing your entire organizational system.

Perhaps the most noticeable ergonomic improvement in the 3.0 version comes in the form of larger, more accessible handles on each tray. This seemingly minor enhancement makes a significant difference in daily use, allowing you to pull out trays smoothly even when you’re focused on other tasks. The redesigned grips are substantial enough to grab without looking down, eliminating the fumbling and frustration that often accompanied earlier versions when you needed to quickly access something stored beneath your desk.

For anyone who has ever struggled with limited desk space or searched fruitlessly for a pen that rolled away, the Otis Hanger 3.0 offers a practical solution that combines convenience with flexibility. By transforming the unused space beneath your desk into functional storage, it helps maintain a tidy workspace without requiring permanent modifications or specialized installation skills. The result is a more organized, efficient work environment where everything has its place, and that place is always within easy reach.

]]>

In a cluttered workspace, finding the perfect desk organizer can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. Most options available today prioritize function over environmental impact, leaving eco-conscious stationery enthusiasts in a difficult position. This desk organizer concept offers a refreshing alternative, harnessing the natural properties of cork to create a solution that’s both practical and planet-friendly, without resorting to the plastic materials that dominate store shelves and eventually our landfills.

Cork remains surprisingly underutilized in our daily lives, typically relegated to wine bottles, bulletin boards, and occasional packaging materials. Yet this remarkable natural material possesses unique qualities that make it ideal for so much more than these limited applications. The Korka concept brilliantly reimagines cork’s potential, transforming this renewable resource into a thoughtful desk companion that organizes your workspace while aligning with sustainable values.

Designer: Fatih Demirci

The genius of Korka lies in its clever exploitation of cork’s natural texture. Unlike smooth plastic or metal organizers that require additional components like clips or dividers to secure items, Korka’s slightly rough surface creates natural friction that gently grips your belongings. This inherent quality eliminates the need for extra parts or materials, resulting in a simpler design that works effortlessly while reducing environmental impact through minimalist construction.

Structurally, Korka features a grid of cork cubes arranged in a visually pleasing pattern that’s as functional as it is attractive. At the intersections of these cubes sit perfectly sized circular holes, designed to hold cylindrical items like pens, pencils, and markers in an upright position for easy access. The thoughtful spacing between cubes creates natural slots that securely hold papers, cards, and other flat items without bending or damaging them.

For smaller items that tend to get lost in the shuffle, Korka incorporates clever concave recesses within each 2×2 grid of cork cubes. These shallow depressions provide the perfect nesting spots for erasers, paper clips, thumbtacks, and other diminutive desk essentials that typically end up scattered across your workspace. The natural grip of the cork surface ensures these items stay put until you need them.

The warm, natural appearance of cork brings an organic element to any desk setup, complementing both minimalist aesthetics and more eclectic office styles. Its neutral tone works harmoniously with virtually any color scheme, while its distinctive texture adds visual interest without overwhelming the space. For those tired of cold, clinical plastic organizers, Korka offers a welcome touch of nature that transforms a utilitarian object into a design statement.

Beyond its practical benefits, Korka represents a shift toward more thoughtful consumption. The renewable nature of cork, which regrows after harvesting, stands in stark contrast to petroleum-based plastics that persist in our environment for centuries after disposal. Its intuitive organization system requires no instruction manual—simply place your items in the appropriate spaces, and the natural properties of cork do the rest. Korka demonstrates how good design can solve everyday problems without compromising our planet’s health.

Our desks might be designed for work, play, or other purposes, but in reality, they are veritable battlegrounds that witness humanity’s never-ending war against clutter. Even the most pristine and most minimalist desks eventually become a landmine of “stuff” that foil our path towards productivity and clarity. Fortunately, veterans who have triumphed over these struggles have shared the secret to success: put everything in their proper place.

Desk organizers don’t just provide storage, though. They’ve also become lifestyle choices and reflections of our aesthetic tastes. That’s why there’s an almost limitless variety of designs in the market, simply because there are just as many tastes and interests. Coming up with your own set of containers and decorations can become an adventure on its own, but this modular organizer is trying to make that journey easier by providing the building blocks to create your own sanctuary of tidiness on your desk.

Designers: Andrey Dalakishvili, Roman Gauz

Modular desk organizers are admittedly nothing new, but while they do offer some level of flexibility, they lock people into a set arrangement or set color options. After all, manufacturers are constrained by factory pipelines and contracts, so they try to cast their nets as wide as they can when it comes to design options.

Thankfully, 3D printing is changing the way products can be made and sold on demand, creating more wiggle room for customization. This DESKO organizer set, for example, comes in seven color options, and that’s when you only choose a single color for all eight parts of the set. You can also choose different colors for each, and, in an ideal world, you can even request colors not available on the list. Even better, the 3D printing process can eventually become more sustainable by not only using more eco-friendly materials but also reducing waste associated with mass production.

The modular design also lets you combine different parts on the three-hole tray, depending on your needs or mood. The other tall containers can be placed anywhere on your desk by themselves or you can place them inside the general-purpose tray if you have no need for that. You’re only constrained by your imagination and circumstances, not to mention the amount of space you have on your desk for these items.

DESKO leaves the door open for more components but also leaves some room for improvement. The arched MagSafe charger, for example, could probably be more space-efficient, though it also serves as a decorative piece. Unfortunately, its uneven feet mean that it has to be used with the tray, already taking up one slot if you do decide to use its capabilities.

There was a time in the not so recent past when most office workers that you see in movies and TV shows and sometimes even in real life are carrying a briefcase as a symbol of the working man. It was the perfect bag to carry documents and other office essentials and was also the symbol of the middle class. But when people started carrying around laptops in their laptop bags, the briefcase somehow lost significance even though it probably would have been the perfect vessels for our devices. After all, they were roughly the same size and shape. A Japanese brand is now trying to make briefcases cool again in this age of laptops, tablets, and other devices.

Designer: Toyo Steel

Toyo Steel is known more for its steel toolboxes has created the Konstella Briefcase, a minimalist but beautiful bag that is a testament to the simplicity and enduring quality of Japanese craftsmanship. In a world saturated with over-designed bags and fleeting trends, this stands out with its understated elegance and unwavering functionality. It has a sleek and aesthetically pleasing case with clean lines and an unadorned surface. It is actually crafted from a single sheet of steel, specifically premium alloy aluminum. Even though it’s not the steel from their tool boxes, it’s still material that can more than adequately protect your laptop and the other important things that you’ll put inside.

Since there are no unnecessary embellishments on the briefcase, it remains lightweight and easy to carry, with its sturdy handle, secure latch, and spacious interior. Inside there’s space for your laptop, documents, and other essentials. You can choose to place it in the internal cushions and leather bundles for extra protection. The aluminum material ensures that the contents are protected from bumps, scratches, and the rigors of daily use. The flat base lets your briefcase stand upright in case you need easy access to your belongings. It comes in several colors like black, brown, champagne gold, and silver.

And that, perhaps, is the true genius of the Konstella Briefcase. It doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, but rather refines it to near perfection. It acknowledges the changing needs of the modern professional, seamlessly adapting the classic briefcase for the digital age. In a world of fleeting trends, the Konstella offers a timeless solution, a piece that transcends mere functionality to become a statement of discerning taste and enduring quality. Toyo Steel has successfully breathed new life into a forgotten icon, demonstrating that simplicity, durability, and thoughtful design can still resonate in a complex world.
